Success With Dr. Atkins Low Carbohydrates

July 16th, 2008 by Thrandur

In the late ’70s, I read an article on Dr. Atkins. His book was not yet available and no labels listed anything as arcane as carbohydrate grams per serving. In fact, I don’t think the labels listed anything other than the contents of the package! So, I had to go out and find books which gave carb counts and bravely go forward since I was impressed with the science involved and knew that it was way better than the “Drinking Man’s Diet” with which it was fatuously compared by those who dismissed (and still are) it out-of-hand.

I didn’t feel particularly healthy when I started, but I wasn’t sick either. Within a week I found out what feeling good felt like. I had great energy and just was a different person. I also lost 30 pounds which I have kept off ever since. I did finally get to read the book but by then I was sold. I have modified the restrictions but I weigh every day so when creep (2 or 3 lbs) starts, I am more strict for a short while. I would never change my life style, not because of the weight so much as for the great rude health I enjoy.

Dr Atkins was right but he still suffers from a terrible press with moronic statements about balance and “it just doesn’t seem right”. The science is there (as doctors who specialize in diabetes know but are careful not to speak the word “Atkins”) and it works. Obviously the method is easy to read about and put into practice. Give it a shot!
