Nicholas Perricone’s Books
July 13th, 2008 by ThrandurA few years ago, I read one of Nicholas Perricone’s books on how to eat differently, improve skin condition, lose weight, and make the blood chemistry better. Actually, since Perricone is a dermatologist, he concentrates mainly on foods and drinks for the skin, but the other benefits occur as well even if they are not his focus. I found this out for myself after just one month on the program.
A typical Perricone meal consists of protein and fruits or vegetables, water or green tea, and virtually no carbs or sugars. A breakfast could consist of oatmeal with berries, two eggs and their whites with feta cheese, and green tea but no coffee; lunch might be a chicken or tofu salad, yogurt and fruit, and a glass of water. Dinner would follow a pattern similar to lunch but might involve a hot entrée like fish. He also recommend an afternoon snack and a bedtime snack which would have a protein like nuts or hummus, fruits or vegetables, and a glass of water.
These snacks prevent the person from getting hungry at the wrong time and from snacking inappropriately. He also recommends some vitamins and minerals, like fish oil, as well as skin products which tend to be high-end.
Before I started this program, I had been wanting to shed some pounds and cholesterol as well. By the end of a month, I had lost at least five pounds, my blood sugars were at normal levels, my blood pressure was excellent, and my cholesterol and triglycerides were down too. I should have stayed on the program, but I am still trying to follow it more or less by getting enough protein whenever I eat. Also, I do not buy the expensive skin care products he recommends. I did find some Perricone products on the website, although I did not see any of his books listed.
